Tourniquet by , Book Summary:

Tourniquet is a gripping, hair-raising tale about the age-old conflict in the Middle East. It portrays an unthinkable yet plausible scenario leading to a no-win holocaust if the present situation goes unresolved. In his crisp, unique writing style, Monson proceeds to link the Middle East to the flash-point of the American border with Mexico. Fly with Israeli Air Force Daniel Kaplan as he protects Haifa Bay from the cold-blooded Osvaldo Sabino deep in the water below / Partner with Senator Madena as he flies to Mexico City with the President’s plan for the Mexican border—his Tourniquet / Hear A.E. Smith debate his love of the beautiful Alicia Roth, architect of the Tourniquet . . . and a Jew / Crash through the Mexican out-back with A.E. and Hector as they search for Alicia, captured and wounded by a band of Osvaldo’s outlaws / Live the suspense as in 2017 a plan is hatched to destroy the entire coastal Middle East / Escape the Mediterranean aboard the USS Kitty Hawk / See the bombing of the Gold Key Casino in Laughlin / Feel the heat as Alicia learns her real-estate father used her to engage in insider-trading / Warm to A.E. and Alicia as they dance and romance at the “Cotton Ball” in Memphis / Fly with Major Kaplan as he rescues a special artifact from ruins in Jerusalem / Marvel at Dr. Sobol’s spectacular museum on the El Sasabe river / And join the celebration as the great diversity that is Tourniquet comes together in a thrilling and amazing conclusion.

The Tourniquet Manual — Principles and Practice by Leslie Klenerman Book Summary:

Why write a book on the tourniquet? The tourniquet is used routinely in op- ating theatres throughout the world, but as far as I know there is no single book that surveys the considerable literature that has accumulated. If used sensibly, the tourniquet is a safe instrument. Most of the few complications seen with its use are preventable. However, when something untoward happens, the tour- quet suddenly becomes an interesting subject, particularly if there is the likelihood of medicolegal consequences. This book summarises the scientific background of the tourniquet and describes a safe physiological approach to preventing complications. Examples of medicolegal problems are included. Considerable progress had been made since Lister first excised a tuberculous wrist joint in a bloodless field. Many researchers have studied the effects of ischaemia and pressure on nerves and muscles. Tourniquets have entered the age of computers and are now much more sophisticated. Despite this, there is still much dogma surrounding the tourniquet in operating theatres and in textbooks. This book is aimed at orthopaedic surgeons, anaesthetists and op- ating-theatre staff. I hope that this short text will stimulate a more widespread interest in the tour- quet and improve safe practice.

Girl in Need of a Tourniquet by Merri Lisa Johnson Book Summary:

An honest and compelling memoir, Girl in Need of a Tourniquet is Merri Lisa Johnson’s account of her borderline personality disorder and how it has affected her life and relationships. Johnson describes the feeling of "bleeding out" — unable to tell where she stopped and where her partner began. A self-confessed "psycho girlfriend," she was influenced by many emotional factors from her past. She recalls her path through a dysfunctional, destructive relationship, while recounting the experiences that brought her to her breaking point. In recognizing her struggle with borderline personality disorder, Johnson is ultimately able to seek help, embarking on a soul-searching healing process. It's a path that is painful, difficult, and at times heart-wrenching, but ultimately makes her more able to love and coexist in healthy relationships.

Tourniquet by Azubuike Isiguzo Book Summary:

My heart is troubled, and I am losing my emotional and spiritual balance simultaneously, Oliver prayed. I am getting more troubled every day from my perplexities, and I have nowhere to turn to but you. You have been the greatest strength of my life, my elixir, and the force behind my wits. Please deliver me from this miry clay, lift my head up that I may not slide into defeat and despair. Oliver screamed, placing his hands on his head. Oh my god, this is not happening, he said as he advanced towards Francis. He was so inflamed and exasperated that he grabbed Francis by his neck with both hands to strangle him, shouting, Why didnt you tell me? You could have just told me, Francis, you could have just told me! Francis was visibly choking, but Oliver didnt make any attempt to release his hold. He was visibly very broken, and Francis knew his boss would never mean to strangle him. As Oliver held on to his neck, screaming, his grip on Franciss neck started to loosen, and his voice, sounding at crescendo, started fading gradually into ventriloqy. Francis, realizing it, looked up into Olivers face and saw what broke him for the next two days, Sarah for the next one week, and Tommy the whole day, which is how long they were all sick. It was tears in Olivers eyes.

Improvised Medicine: Providing Care in Extreme Environments, 2nd edition by Kenneth V. Iserson Book Summary:

Deliver quality healthcare in the most challenging field conditions Comprehensive yet compact, practical, and enduring, Improvised Medicine: Providing Care in Extreme Environments, Second Edition, is the one book to toss into your bag when going to practice medicine in global, disaster, or other resource-poor settings, including theaters of war, regions of civil unrest, and economically deprived areas. Full of practical clinical pearls and field-tested strategies, this indispensable guide provides detailed instructions on how to work successfully outside of your comfort zone. It demonstrates how to devise effective treatment solutions when the traditional tools (medications, equipment, and staff) are unavailable or when providing care outside your primary area of expertise. In any crisis, from power failures and computer crashes to floods, tsunamis, and earthquakes, knowing how to deal with the unique challenges encountered saves lives and communities. This reference gives you that knowledge and inspires innovative crisis resolution. FROM REVIEWS OF THE FIRST EDITION: "Dr Iserson has given us a most remarkable book. Many readers may be familiar with David Werner's lay healthworker book, Where There Is No Doctor; this new volume could be titled Where There Is a Doctor–But No Stuff.
