The Apocrypha

The Apocrypha [Pdf/ePub] eBook

The Apocrypha by N.A Book Summary:

The Apocryphal books were excluded from the Bible, yet consist of writings that were considered to be sacred scriptures by certain religious sects. These books had their origins in early Judaism and were later adopted by early Christianity. This volume is sometimes referred to as The Apocrypha Proper, or the Apocrypha of the Old Testament as used by English speaking Protestants. Some of these works overshadowed the canonical scriptures in both Judaism and early Christianity, despite their canonical exclusion. This is why it is important to preserve and study them.

The Apocrypha by David A. deSilva Book Summary:

For many across the world, the books of the Apocrypha are Christian Scripture. Learn more about them as you learn more about how Jesus thought and lived. Using a thematic approach, Dr. David deSilva gives a brief introduction and summary of these largely unknown and unappreciated books. In addition the book gives an overview to the social and cultural context of the world of the Apocrypha and early Christianity. After surveying the Apocrypha’s relevance and impact on Christian practices and spiritual formation, the book highlights the Apocrypha’s impact on Jesus, the New Testament, and the formation of the Early Church’s doctrines and theology. Core Biblical Studies fulfill the need for brief, substantive, yet highly accessible introductions to key subjects and themes in biblical studies. In the shifting tides of biblical interpretation, these books are designed to help students locate relevant meanings in conversation with the text. The Apocrypha [Pdf/ePub] eBook

The Apocrypha by Various Book Summary:

"Apocrypha ... books which are not regarded as equal to the holy Scriptures, and yet are profitable and good to read." - Martin Luther. The word "apocryphal" was first applied to writings which were kept secret because they were the vehicles of esoteric knowledge considered too profound or too sacred to be disclosed to anyone other than the initiated. All King James Bibles published before 1666 included the Apocrypha. Many reprintings of older versions of the Bible now omit the apocrypha and many newer translations and revisions have never included them at all. This is the complete Christian Apocrypha as it appeared in pre-1666 KJ Bibles: 1 Esdras 2 Esdras Additions to Esther 1 Macabees 2 Macabees Tobias Judith Wisdom Sirach Baruch Epistle of Jeremiah Susanna Prayer of Azariah Prayer of Manasseh Bel and the Dragon Laodiceans

Black, the publishers of his editions of Jubilees, Martyrdom of Isaiah, Testament of the XII Patriarchs, Assumption of Moses, 2 Baruch, for permission to reprint the translation and make use of the introduction and notes contained in those editions. The Apocryphal William Shakespeare

The Apocrypha [Pdf/ePub] eBook

The Apocryphal William Shakespeare by Sabrina Feldman Book Summary:

Sabrina Feldman manages the Planetary Science Instrument Development Office at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Born and raised in Riverside, California, she attended college and graduate school at the University of California at Berkeley, where she enjoyed the wonderful performances of the Berkeley Shakespeare Company, studied Shakespeare's works for a semester with Professor Stephen Booth, and received a Ph.D. in experimental physics in 1996. She has worked on many different instrument development projects for NASA, and is the former deputy director of JPL's Center for Life Detection. Her scientific training, combined with a lifelong love of literature and all things Shakespearean, gives her a unique perspective on the Shakespeare authorship mystery. Dr. Feldman lives in Pasadena, California with her husband and two children. This is her first book. If William Shakespeare wrote the Bard's works... Who wrote the Shakespeare Apocrypha? During his lifetime and for many years afterwards, William Shakespeare was credited with writing not only the Bard's canonical works, but also a series of 'apocryphal' Shakespeare plays. Stylistic threads linking these lesser works suggest they shared a common author or co-author who wrote in a coarse, breezy style, and created very funny clown scenes. He was also prone to pilfering lines from other dramatists, consistent with Robert Greene's 1592 attack on William Shakespeare as an "upstart crow." The anomalous existence of two bodies of work exhibiting distinct poetic voices printed under one man's name suggests a fascinating possibility. Could William Shakespeare have written the apocryphal plays while serving as a front man for the 'poet in purple robes, ' a hidden court poet who was much admired by a literary coterie in the 1590s? And could the 'poet in purple robes' have been the great poet and statesman Thomas Sackville (1536-1608), a previously overlooked authorship candidate who is an excellent fit to the Shakespearean glass slipper? Both of these scenarios are well supported by literary and historical records, many of which have not been previously considered in the context of the Shakespeare authorship debate.

The Apocrypha and Pseudepigrapha of the Old Testament in English

The Apocrypha [Pdf/ePub] eBook

The Apocrypha and Pseudepigrapha of the Old Testament in English by R. H. Charles Book Summary:

2020 Reprint of the 1913 Edition. Volume One Only, the Aprocrypha. Volume Two, the Pseudepigrapha is published separately and forthcoming with ISBN 978-1-68422-444-9. Full facsimile of the original edition and not reproduced with Optical Recognition software. Apocrypha and Pseudepigrapha are two separate groups of works dating primarily from the period of the Second Temple. The name "Apocrypha" is applied to a collection of books not included in the canon of the Bible although they are incorporated in the canon of the Roman Catholic and Greek Orthodox churches. Robert Henry Charles (1855-1931) was an Irish biblical scholar and theologian. He left parochial work in 1889 to devote himself to biblical research and became the greatest authority of his time in matters of Jewish eschatology and apocrypha. He devoted his life to biblical research, and he became one of the primary authorities on matters of Jewish culture and theology, eschatology in particular. In 1913, Charles published an English translation of the Apocryphal (or Deuterocanonical) books of the Bible, including those not typically printed in Bibles that include the Apocrypha. This was followed by volume two of the same series, which covered the Pseudepigrapha. His translations of the Book of Enoch and the Testaments of the Twelve Patriarchs especially are still widely used.
