The 48 Laws of Power by Robert Greene Book Summary:

Amoral, cunning, ruthless, and instructive, this multi-million-copy New York Times bestseller is the definitive manual for anyone interested in gaining, observing, or defending against ultimate control – from the author of The Laws of Human Nature. In the book that People magazine proclaimed “beguiling” and “fascinating,” Robert Greene and Joost Elffers have distilled three thousand years of the history of power into 48 essential laws by drawing from the philosophies of Machiavelli, Sun Tzu, and Carl Von Clausewitz and also from the lives of figures ranging from Henry Kissinger to P.T. Barnum. Some laws teach the need for prudence (“Law 1: Never Outshine the Master”), others teach the value of confidence (“Law 28: Enter Action with Boldness”), and many recommend absolute self-preservation (“Law 15: Crush Your Enemy Totally”). Every law, though, has one thing in common: an interest in total domination. In a bold and arresting two-color package, The 48 Laws of Power is ideal whether your aim is conquest, self-defense, or simply to understand the rules of the game.

Why Nations Fail by Daron Acemoglu,James A. Robinson Book Summary:

Brilliant and engagingly written, Why Nations Fail answers the question that has stumped the experts for centuries: Why are some nations rich and others poor, divided by wealth and poverty, health and sickness, food and famine? Is it culture, the weather, geography? Perhaps ignorance of what the right policies are? Simply, no. None of these factors is either definitive or destiny. Otherwise, how to explain why Botswana has become one of the fastest growing countries in the world, while other African nations, such as Zimbabwe, the Congo, and Sierra Leone, are mired in poverty and violence? Daron Acemoglu and James Robinson conclusively show that it is man-made political and economic institutions that underlie economic success (or lack of it). Korea, to take just one of their fascinating examples, is a remarkably homogeneous nation, yet the people of North Korea are among the poorest on earth while their brothers and sisters in South Korea are among the richest. The south forged a society that created incentives, rewarded innovation, and allowed everyone to participate in economic opportunities. The economic success thus spurred was sustained because the government became accountable and responsive to citizens and the great mass of people. Sadly, the people of the north have endured decades of famine, political repression, and very different economic institutions—with no end in sight. The differences between the Koreas is due to the politics that created these completely different institutional trajectories. Based on fifteen years of original research Acemoglu and Robinson marshall extraordinary historical evidence from the Roman Empire, the Mayan city-states, medieval Venice, the Soviet Union, Latin America, England, Europe, the United States, and Africa to build a new theory of political economy with great relevance for the big questions of today, including: - China has built an authoritarian growth machine. Will it continue to grow at such high speed and overwhelm the West? - Are America’s best days behind it? Are we moving from a virtuous circle in which efforts by elites to aggrandize power are resisted to a vicious one that enriches and empowers a small minority? - What is the most effective way to help move billions of people from the rut of poverty to prosperity? More philanthropy from the wealthy nations of the West? Or learning the hard-won lessons of Acemoglu and Robinson’s breakthrough ideas on the interplay between inclusive political and economic institutions? Why Nations Fail will change the way you look at—and understand—the world.

In Grand Purple Robes of Madness by Anonymous Book Summary:

A diary of a man descending into madness. Written as a prelude to suicide, the tortured Narrator tells us he is attempting to write the bleakest book ever written. Fans of Pessoa, Cioran, Nietzsche, and Bataille may find this work intriguing. Each entry serves as a meditation and a further descent. We are given the lyrical substitute for the narrator's anguish. Ego vanishes. Every mood is set down and recast in the molds of painful lyricism. A war of opposites is waged from within as if a dress rehearsal for "The magnum opus I'll never write..." We notice both affinity and disjunction; Poems are included seemingly for the sole purpose of thwarting the discipline of poetry. Everything is taken from a phenomenological attitude, as if it had been the Diary of Heidegger or Husserl. This book is the 3rd in the "Shadow Buddha Trilogy" which includes: 1)In Grand Purple Robes of Madness 2)Spectres of Confusion and 3)Slow Arrow

The Spiritual Laws of Money by Daniel Marques Book Summary:

There are specific laws that many billionaires in the world, from the United States to China, including Europe and other continents, follow in order to obtain their fortune. Every day, even as the economy shows instability and experiences downturns, many new billionaires are made. And they have things in common, no matter how old or young they may seem. They share the same paradigm about how to make money, and their habits match money making laws. Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Sir Richard Branson and many others, have secrets they’ve learned through hard work, accumulated failures and life experience. We admire the personality of successful individuals and what they do, not knowing that behind them there are spiritual laws that cross time and have been with us for millions of years. Gaining profit in any activity has always been submitted to the same codifications, God’s codes. And, they’re related to the laws of energy and karma. The theory of the law of attraction isn’t anywhere near showing us these codes or explaining them. Besides, science and, more precisely, mathematics and physics are still closed inside numbers and molecules, not really allowing the common citizen to apply such principles in his daily life to change reality. In fact, there’s no interest in providing society with the power to change reality with precise and scientifically proven formulas. On the other hand, why would millionaires, spending their life struggling to get this knowledge, give it to you for free, while making you a potential competitor of what they fought so hard to achieve? These are top secrets, greater than any others, because, money, whatever you may have heard about it, is power, at least in our physical world. Nonetheless, this thing that we call money, follows, as anything else in this planet, divine laws, because this world has specific rules with specific purposes as well. And, independently of how much a country may be misguided by its culture or government, these laws still apply. After years studying the law of attraction profoundly and with the help of the best teachers in this field, studying religious philosophies with some of the fastest growing religious societies, and learning some of the most well-hidden spiritual secrets about money, both in close door meetings for a few selected individuals and with some of the biggest world billionaires currently living in Asia, the final point that allowed me to combine this entire data under one single guideline was reached. Furthermore, I would probably never truly understand the application of many spiritual theories, if I hadn’t seen how they apply in, for example, an Indian business owner that got rich after three bankruptcies, or billionaires in China and Singapore, that built their entire fortune out of nowhere, with no help, no education or even money in their pockets. Observing how fast these individuals can double, and even triple, their income, in just a few weeks or years, leaves no doubt regarding the power of these laws and their truth, despite what the majority may think about it. Besides, it’s only normal that most people won’t ever agree with these principles, and will even criticize and mock them, as that’s why they don’t control the flow of wealth as some do. The ones we call the 1% aren’t the 99% for a very important reason. The time has come to reveal these secrets and this book is very likely one of the most resumed and clearer about this issue that can be found. It has actually been advertised as the best book about money ever read, by experts in finance, managers of international banks and stockbrokers, promoting it online as an interesting and inspirational work.

Pain Management and the Opioid Epidemic by National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine,Health and Medicine Division,Board on Health Sciences Policy,Committee on Pain Management and Regulatory Strategies to Address Prescription Opioid Abuse Book Summary:

Drug overdose, driven largely by overdose related to the use of opioids, is now the leading cause of unintentional injury death in the United States. The ongoing opioid crisis lies at the intersection of two public health challenges: reducing the burden of suffering from pain and containing the rising toll of the harms that can arise from the use of opioid medications. Chronic pain and opioid use disorder both represent complex human conditions affecting millions of Americans and causing untold disability and loss of function. In the context of the growing opioid problem, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) launched an Opioids Action Plan in early 2016. As part of this plan, the FDA asked the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine to convene a committee to update the state of the science on pain research, care, and education and to identify actions the FDA and others can take to respond to the opioid epidemic, with a particular focus on informing FDA's development of a formal method for incorporating individual and societal considerations into its risk-benefit framework for opioid approval and monitoring.

Slow Arrow by Anonymous Book Summary:

A fragmented debris of surrealism and hysteria. Written in the form of an anonymous diary, the narrator demonstrates a progression from crippling anxiety toward Buddhist awakening. Text is unconventional, manic, chaotic, tortured and relentless. Fans of Henry Miller will perhaps see some similarities. The narrator's disgust for existence seems to stain every page. Themes of Nihilism, Psychopathy, and Heraclitus add to the overall mood of delirium. Also features Essays on Nietzche, Cioran, and Plato. This book may be considered the finale to this author's "Shadow Buddha Trilogy" which includes: 1)In Grand Purple Robes of Madness 2)Spectres of Confusion and 3)Slow Arrow

Cosmic Pessimism. Nihilism. Zen. by Anonymous Book Summary:

1,000 aphorisms of Cosmic Pessimism (400 pages!) and other Nihilistic essays, outburts, musings, etc. Go ahead. Read them. What's the worst that could happen? Before deciding to compile this book, I read the 14 page book by Eugene Thacker entitled: Cosmic Pessimism. If not for that terrible dissappointment of a book by Eugene Thacker, similarly titled, you would not be reading this now, so I guess, you have his brevity (and my reactionary ANGER) to thank for this immaculate and flawless publication here, which I have called, Cosmic Pessimism. Nihilism. Zen. Eugene Thacker’s book is tiny. I fault him for that. I don’t however, fault him for taking up the aphoristic style, the strategy of hammering the reader with short bursts of aporia, disjunction and bizarre impasse. Jaded little utterances; Questions in response to questions! Inscrutable paradoxes! Brutal condemnations of existence!

Reversing by Eldad Eilam Book Summary:

Beginning with a basic primer on reverse engineering-including computer internals, operating systems, and assembly language-and then discussing the various applications of reverse engineering, this book provides readers with practical, in-depth techniques for software reverse engineering. The book is broken into two parts, the first deals with security-related reverse engineering and the second explores the more practical aspects of reverse engineering. In addition, the author explains how to reverse engineer a third-party software library to improve interfacing and how to reverse engineer a competitor's software to build a better product. * The first popular book to show how software reverse engineering can help defend against security threats, speed up development, and unlock the secrets of competitive products * Helps developers plug security holes by demonstrating how hackers exploit reverse engineering techniques to crack copy-protection schemes and identify software targets for viruses and other malware * Offers a primer on advanced reverse-engineering, delving into "disassembly"-code-level reverse engineering-and explaining how to decipher assembly language

Quiet by Susan Cain Book Summary:

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Experience the book that started the Quiet Movement and revolutionized how the world sees introverts—and how introverts see themselves—by offering validation, inclusion, and inspiration “Superbly researched, deeply insightful, and a fascinating read, Quiet is an indispensable resource for anyone who wants to understand the gifts of the introverted half of the population.”—Gretchen Rubin, author of The Happiness Project NAMED ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY People • O: The Oprah Magazine • Christian Science Monitor • Inc. • Library Journal • Kirkus Reviews At least one-third of the people we know are introverts. They are the ones who prefer listening to speaking; who innovate and create but dislike self-promotion; who favor working on their own over working in teams. It is to introverts—Rosa Parks, Chopin, Dr. Seuss, Steve Wozniak—that we owe many of the great contributions to society. In Quiet, Susan Cain argues that we dramatically undervalue introverts and shows how much we lose in doing so. She charts the rise of the Extrovert Ideal throughout the twentieth century and explores how deeply it has come to permeate our culture. She also introduces us to successful introverts—from a witty, high-octane public speaker who recharges in solitude after his talks, to a record-breaking salesman who quietly taps into the power of questions. Passionately argued, impeccably researched, and filled with indelible stories of real people, Quiet has the power to permanently change how we see introverts and, equally important, how they see themselves. Now with Extra Libris material, including a reader’s guide and bonus content
