Miracles that could reverse the damage caused by war, climate change, and rising sea levels. Nightmares that could forever alter humanity - or even destroy it. Chloe Millar works in London, mapping changes caused by imported scraps of alien technology. When she stumbles across a pair of orphaned kids possessed by an ancient ghost, she must decide whether to help them or to hand them over to the authorities. Authorities who believe that their visions point towards a new kind of danger. And on one of the Jackaroo's gift-worlds, the murder of a man who has just arrived from Earth leads policeman Vic Gayle to a war between rival gangs over possession of a remote excavation site. Something is coming through. Something linked to the visions of Chloe's orphans, and Vic Gayle's murder investigation. Something that will challenge the limits of the Jackaroo's benevolence ...

“A Matter of Family”

Something Coming Through [Pdf/ePub] eBook

“A Matter of Family” by Gloria Marie Kingsnorth Book Summary:

The following memoirs involve one woman’s attempt to expose a family curse bestowed upon them through trickery and deception. This novel is a search for answers, a struggle for truth and integrity. This is an argument for karmic justice for the author and her extended family members’ and their birthright. The following pages are one woman’s journey through hell. This is a quest to rid herself of the ghosts of her past and reveal her multibillionaire cousin’s hidden identity “It’s difficult to determine if Kingsnorth’s story is one of fiction or perceived truth, since the preface says “novel,” but the content reads like a memoir.” -Kirkus Review “ A Matter of Family: A Cousin’s Lament is a memoir of author Gloria Marie Kingsnorth’s fictional self, written in letter form to her alleged cousin, billionaire Grant Wilson Billings. The author’s writing keeps the reader enthralled. Her narrative bends and refracts the black and white of her protagonist’s life into ambiguous gray... Motifs similar to those found in the work of Edgar Allen Poe, like incest, murder, and insanity, are expertly infused in this modern Gothic.” Four Stars (out of Five) -Clarion Review

The Day the Devils Dropped In

Something Coming Through [Pdf/ePub] eBook

The Day the Devils Dropped In by Neil Barber Book Summary:

This WWII history presents a vivid chronicle of the British Army’s 9th Parachute Battalion and their operations in Normandy based on survivor interviews. The first hours and days following the Allied invasion of Normandy were perhaps the most crucial moment of the Second World War. The Day The Devils Dropped In examines the pivotal role played by the 9th Battalion of the Parachute Regiment in the first week of the landings. These brave British soldiers were tasked with neutralizing the mighty Merville Battery, and capturing Le Plein and the Chateau St. Côme on the Breville Ridge. Failure by to achieve any of these objectives could have meant disaster for Operation Overlord—and catastrophe for the Allied war effort. In his quest to uncover what transpired in the early days of the landings, historian Neil Barber tracked down and interviewed surviving participants in the operation. In The Day the Devils Dropped In, he presents the full story, largely in the very words of those who lived through the experience. Enhanced by wartime photographs throughout, this revealing chronicle is a fine tribute to those whose contribution must never be forgotten.

Something Coming

Something Coming Through [Pdf/ePub] eBook

Something Coming by Gail E. Husch Book Summary:

This major contribution to the study of antebellum religious art offers a detailed case study of American postmillennialism and its many visual expressions. Treating paintings as "intersections of cultural expression," Gail E. Husch begins with a single painting to spin out an interpretation in many directions, from the specific aesthetic and social concerns of artist and patron to the wider political and cultural concerns of Americans in the mid-19th century. Arguing that "genuine apocalyptic faith" was fundamental to American Protestants, Husch shows how artists, patrons, and ordinary citizens actively engaged contemporary questions of peace and war, freedom and slavery, and the equality of human beings before God in their visual arts. Part of an emerging revaluation of the role of the religious in American art, Husch asks us to read ideas as they function in works, rather than see images merely as passive illustrations of ideas. Weaving images drawn from high and low culture, politics, and religion, she develops a complex cultural narrative of the times, thus showing the truth of one picture being worth a thousand words.

A Splurch in the Kisser

Something Coming Through [Pdf/ePub] eBook

A Splurch in the Kisser by Sam Wasson Book Summary:

With one of the longest and most controversial careers in Hollywood history, Blake Edwards is a phoenix of movie directors, full of hubris, ambition, and raving comic chutzpah. His rambunctious filmography remains an artistic force on par with Hollywood's greatest comic directors: Lubitsch, Sturges, Wilder. Like Wilder, Edwards’s propensity for hilarity is double-helixed with pain, and in films like Breakfast at Tiffany's, Days of Wine and Roses, and even The Pink Panther, we can hear him off-screen, laughing in the dark. And yet, despite those enormous successes, he was at one time considered a Hollywood villain. After his marriage to Julie Andrews, Edwards’s Darling Lili nearly sunk the both of them and brought Paramount Studios to its knees. Almost overnight, Blake became an industry pariah, which ironically fortified his sense of satire, as he simultaneously fought the Hollywood tide and rode it. Employing keen visual analysis, meticulous research, and troves of interviews and production files, Sam Wasson delivers the first complete account of one of the maddest figures Hollywood has ever known.
