Scotland The Brave

Scotland The Brave Land [Pdf/ePub] eBook

Scotland The Brave by Ivar Alastair Watson Book Summary:

Scotland The Brave is a thematically contemporary novel featuring the running down of the Clyde shipbuilding industry and the question of Scottish independence. Watson’s fictional story is highly relevant to the current situation in Scotland and takes, as its starting point, the murder of Charlie Armstrong in 1950s Inchnadamph. Charlie, the manager of a salmon fishery and local ‘tough guy’, faced an increased threat from poaching and out of this true tale of intrigue and murder emerges Watson’s story of the disintegration of Scotland and the current political climate. Would independence for Scotland lead to regeneration? That is the question.

East Jersey Under the Proprietary Governments

Scotland The Brave Land [Pdf/ePub] eBook

East Jersey Under the Proprietary Governments by William A. Whitehead Book Summary:

y William A. Whitehead Republished from the original 1846 edition - (PDF 4.13Mb, 270pp, illustrated) Whitehead's "East Jersey" is now rarely seen, but is the most frequently-cited source for information relating to the colonial period prior to 1702. Drawing upon original manuscripts and pamphlets, the author preserves a detailed account of the first settlers of the eastern division of Berkeley and Carteret's grant from the Duke of York. The work concentrates on the development of the communities of Perth Amboy and Pisctaway, as well as the exploration and development of lands up the Raritan River and around Shrewsbury. Other settlements (mostly old Dutch communities) are mentioned, but largely ignored. Of particular interest is the inclusion of George Scot's "The Model of the Government of the Province of East Jersey in America" in its entirety - apparently for the first time since its original printing in 1685. This important work supported the efforts of the Scots proprietors of East Jersey to recruit planters, apprentices, tradesmen, merchants and servants to the New World. The text includes letters written by the first Scots settlers which describe New Jersey as a wonderful alternative to Scotland. Whitehead also wrote a supplement to this volume, "Contributions to the Early History of Perth Amboy," which details the history of the area until the American Revolution and somewhat beyond. As the original edition is among the most sought-after of published Jerseyana, this masterfully-published eBook edition will be especially welcome to students of New Jersey history.. Contents PERIOD I. - 1609-1664. - From the Discovery of the Country until its Surrender to the English PERIOD II. - 1669-1682. - From the Surrender of the Country to the English, until the Sale to the Twenty-Four Proprietaries PERIOD III. - 1682-1689. - From the Transfer of East Jersey to the Twenty-Four Proprietaries, to the Subversion of the Authority of Andros PERIOD IV. - 1689-1702. - From the Subversion of the Authority of Andros, to the Surrender of the Government to the Crown NOTES "THE MODEL OF GOVERNMENT OF THE PROVINCE OF EAST JERSEY IN AMERICA" by George Scot (Edinburgh, printed by John Reid, 1685) INDEX ILLUSTRATIONS - Map of New Jersey, 1656 - Official Seal of Berkeley and Carteret, 1665 - Map of East Jersey, 1682 - Map of Perth Amboy, as originally laid out - Official Seal of the Twenty-four Proprietaries - Autographs - Official Seal of Governor Philip Carteret

Thar's Joy in Braveland

Scotland The Brave Land [Pdf/ePub] eBook

Thar's Joy in Braveland by Saul Wisnia,Joe Wancho,Bob Buege,Chip Greene,John Vorperian,Michael J Bielawa,Mel Marmer,Rory Costello Book Summary:

"You talk about destiny, well, you can't rule that out. We were hard-nosed and that showed up in 1957." -- Braves catcher Del Crandall to editor Gregory H. Wolf Few teams in baseball history have captured the hearts of their fans like the Milwaukee Braves of the 19505. During the Braves' 13-year tenure in Milwaukee (1953-1965), they had a winning record every season, won two consecutive NL pennants (1957 and 1958), lost two more in the final week of the season (1956 and 1959), and set big-league attendance records along the way. This book celebrates the Milwaukee Braves' historic 1957 World Series championship season. Led by the bats of National League Most Valuable Player Henry Aaron and slugging third baseman Eddie Mathews and the "Big Three" pitching trio (Cy Young Award winner Warren Spahn, Lew Burdette, and Bob Buhl) the Braves won 95 games. The team enjoyed standout seasons by shortstop Johnny Logan, outfielder Wes Covington, and catcher Del Crandall And GM John Quinn pulled off the biggest trade of the summer, acquiring All-Star second baseman Red Schoendienst from the New York Giants. The Braves cemented their place in history by defeating the New York Yankees in the World Series. In one of the greatest performances in the history of the fall classic, crafty Lew Burdette tossed his second consecutive shutout (and third complete game) to defeat the Bronx Bombers in Game Seven, in Yankee Stadium. A collaborative effort of 32 members of the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR), Thar's Joy in Braveland! The 1957 Milwaukee Braves portrays that memorable team with life stories of all of the roster players, the manager and coaching staff, the owner, the general manager, and sportswriters and radio announcers. Summaries of the regular season and World Series re-create the magic of that unforgettable season. Scotland The Brave Land [Pdf/ePub] eBook

The Scottish Invention of America, Democracy and Human Rights by Alexander Leslie Klieforth,Robert John Munro Book Summary:

The Scottish Invention of America, Democracy and Human Rights is a history of liberty from 1300 BC to 2004 AD. The book traces the history of the philosophy and fight for freedom from the ancient Celts to the medieval Scots to the Scottish Enlightenment to the creation of America. The work contends that the roots of liberty originated in the radical political thought of the ancient Celts, the Scots' struggle for freedom, John Duns Scotus and the Scottish declaration of independence (Arbroath, 1320) that were the primary basis of the American Declaration of Independence and the modern human rights movement.
