The Matthew Journey: A Discipleship Manual Through the Gospel of Matthew

Journeying With Matthew [Pdf/ePub] eBook

The Matthew Journey: A Discipleship Manual Through the Gospel of Matthew by Jeff S. Kennedy Book Summary:

Before Jesus left his disciples he gave them the famous commission to "Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I've commanded you..." (Mt 28:19-20). The commission actually reveals a unique characteristic of Matthew's Gospel - it was designed to be a training manual for the Matthean community of disciples. Matthew's Gospel was structured along five major discourses on discipleship (Ch's 5-7; 10; 13; 18; 24-25). In addition to these formalized sermons, the gospel contains numerous situational teaching moments. Thus, future disciples are expected to assimilate the entire spectrum of Jesus' teaching content found in both His preaching and practice. The disciple of Jesus should know: - who Jesus is - what Jesus has to say, and - what Jesus did. Knowing who he is will inspire faith in him. Knowing what he commands will guide the disciple in obedience, and knowing what the Master does will provide a pattern to follow. These three lines of inquiry will guide the disciple's development into the image of Jesus. The end-game in following such a manual is that the believer will be prepared to make disciples of others. If this all sounds to you like a pretty tall order, well then you're right. It is a demanding journey! Welcome to The Matthew Journey. This study guide follow's the course taught at Eastpoint Church in Spokane Valley, WA. It is designed to be a thirteen week discipleship/mentoring curriculum for committed disciples.

A Journey for the Ages

Journeying With Matthew [Pdf/ePub] eBook

A Journey for the Ages by Matthew A. Henson Book Summary:

In an era when segregation thrived and Jim Crow reigned supreme, adventurer Matthew A. Henson defied racial stereotypes. During his teenage years, Henson sailed on vessels that journeyed across the globe, and it is those experiences that caught the attention of famed arctic explorer Matthew Peary. Operating as Peary’s “first man” on six expeditions that spanned over a quarter of century, Henson was an essential member of all of Peary’s most famous expeditions. His unparalleled skills as a craftsman and his mastery of the dialects of native Northern peoples, Henson was indispensable to the success of these missions. Of all voyages which Henson and Peary undertook, none is more groundbreaking then their 1909 journey to Greenland, and onto the previously impenetrable North Pole. Together with a small team of four native Intuits, Henson and Peary became the first team to ever reach the geographic North Pole, forever cementing their place as two of the greatest Arctic explorers of all time. In 1937, the Explorer’s Club honored that achievement, inducting Henson as their first ever African-American member. In 1912, Henson chronicled his recollections of this historic journey in a memoir originally entitled A Negro Explorer at the North Pole. Now reissued as First to the North Pole, this edition of Henson’s memoir features a new foreword by Explorer Club president Ted Janulis, emphasizing the importance of Henson’s historic achievements. The Amazing Journey – How Newcastle United Conquered Europe

Journeying With Matthew [Pdf/ePub] eBook

The Amazing Journey – How Newcastle United Conquered Europe by Matthew Watson-Broughton Book Summary:

As Newcastle United Football Club completes fifty years without a major trophy, The Amazing Journey - How Newcastle United Conquered Europe takes a fresh, original look at the Magpies' remarkable achievement of winning the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup in 1969. Sports journalist and translator Matthew Watson-Broughton travelled to eight European countries to interview dozens of footballers who played in this campaign, either for the Black-and-Whites or for one of their six opponents, all of which were expected to beat Joe Harvey's team but were ultimately shattered by Geordie grit, unstoppable performances and spectacular goals. That Newcastle's first-round victims Feyenoord were good enough to become champions of Europe the following year shows the scale of the challenge Harvey's heroes had to overcome. As well as using 100 evocative photos to illustrate each step of the campaign, Matthew tracked down and met many fans, journalists, all of Newcastle's former stars and at least three players from each opposing team, a number of whom were real, international stars. Now, the locally-born author reveals their many fabulous, previously-unpublished stories and opinions in this definitive account of Newcastle United’s least-likely but perhaps greatest-ever triumph.

A Journey Through Holy Week

Journeying With Matthew [Pdf/ePub] eBook

A Journey Through Holy Week by Justin Miller Book Summary:

“I forgot!” How many of us have heard those words from our own mouths after we failed to remember something important? God’s people, both in the Old Testament and his redeemed today, are guilty of forgetting what matters most in the busyness of daily life. Is it any wonder that in the Law of God, the Torah, three festivals a year were to be attended by all Jewish males to reflect on God’s grace, goodness, and revealed truth? In Deuteronomy 6:9–12, the people were to put God’s word on their doorposts so that they would not forget his commands and acts of deliverance when they settled in the promise land. In the New Testament, Jesus institutes two ordinances (baptism and the Lord’s Supper) for the church to practice in order to remember and reverently celebrate what he accomplished on their behalf. Throughout Holy Scripture, God calls his forgetful people to reflect on and remember his past works, so they may see his everlasting glory. Taking a journey through Holy Week in the Gospel of Matthew is another opportunity to reflect on the person and work of the Lord Jesus. Holy Week begins on the first Sunday before Resurrection Sunday (Easter) and reflects on the events of Jesus’ last days leading up to his crucifixion and resurrection. This journey through Holy Week is meant to remind us of the person and work of Jesus so that our affections will be stirred and our mouths will praise him to the glory of God the Father.

Journeying Through Life by MATTHEW JOHN LEPAK Book Summary:

There will be a day when we will have no more tears, sadness, fears, pain, and suffering. These are part of Jeremy Camp's song “,There Will be a Day.” In this powerful song Matthew listened about the burdens of earth going away some day. God is going to wipe away the tears that we have. So here we are, with our burdens and our crosses. However, there is so much joy, hope, happiness, and strength in the world. There is a lot to enjoy in this life. Until that day that Jeremy Camp tells about, we will be on this earth. We might as well seek and find the joy that is present in this world. We are all together in this world. As we go on our journeys let us not forget this. Currently Matthew is a graduate student on route to be a licensed professional counselor. Matthew tries to find joy in each day and hopes that his poems speak to you. Matthew also hopes that we all listen to, are compassionate to, as well as are empathetic to, other people in the world. We need to work together on our right paths, and with God anything is possible. We just have to listen to and follow His will. Matthew prays and hopes that when we are together on our journeys we realize our togetherness. Religion, ethnicity, size, gender, and distance do no separate us from the love of each other. Our Higher Power, whatever Great Power that may be, in Matthew's case, Jesus Christ, keeps us on the right path. We are all human and will falter, but Jesus calls us back to Him with open arms to a life of complete fulfillment.

Studies in Matthew

Journeying With Matthew [Pdf/ePub] eBook

Studies in Matthew by Ulrich Luz Book Summary:

Translated by Rosemary Selle The work of one of the world's foremost New Testament scholars, Ulrich Luz, this book gathers eighteen penetrating studies of Matthew's Gospel, available here in English for the first time. Luz's groundbreaking work ranges widely over the critical issues of Matthean studies, including the narrative structure and sources of the Gospel and its presentation of such themes as christology, discipleship, miracles, and Israel. Several chapters also outline and demonstrate the hermeneutical methods underlying Luz's acclaimed commentary on Matthew, for which this book can serve as a companion. Luz is particularly conscious of the Gospel's reception history, a history of interpretation connecting us with the past that determines so many of our questions, categories, and values. Studies in Matthew thus constitutes a noteworthy contribution to biblical hermeneutics as well as to exegesis.
