Last Gospel of Christ

Cruel Crown Pdf [Pdf/ePub] eBook

Last Gospel of Christ by Daniel F. Owsley Book Summary:

The Last Gospel of Christ can be described beautifully by the words of James Hefley who long ago wrote “Here is a man who was born in an obscure village, the Child of a peasant woman. He worked in a carpenter shop until He was thirty, and then for three years He was an itinerant (educated) preacher. He never wrote a book. He never held an office. He never owned a home. He never had a family. He never went to college. He never put His foot inside a big city. He never travelled two hundred miles from the place where He was born. He never did one of the things that usually accompany greatness. He had no credentials but Himself. He had nothing to do with this world except the naked power of His Divine manhood. While still a young man, the tide of popular opinion turned against Him. He was turned over to His enemies. He went through the mockery of a trial. He was nailed to a Cross between two thieves. His executioners gambled for the only piece of property He had on earth while He was dying—and that was His coat. When He was dead He was taken down and laid in a borrowed grave through the pity of a friend. Such was His human life—He rises from the dead. Nineteen wide centuries have come and gone and today He is the Centerpiece of the human race and the Leader of the column of progress. I am within the mark when I say that all the armies that ever marched, and all the navies that ever were built, and all the parliaments that ever sat, and all the kings that ever reigned, put together, have not affected the life of man upon this earth as powerfully as has that One Solitary Life.” And to sum up this work, it's simply about the life and death of our Lion of Judea that's told from a prophetic fundamental viewpoint through many authors. And as the gospel is unfolded it clearly spells out that there are only two kind of Christians. And I'm not talking about Catholic or Protestant: For so it is that the only two kinds of followers are those who know that they're victorious no matter what, and then there's the kind of believer that doesn't know that at all. But it's very unfortunate that people in that group sadly settle for the mistaken belief that they've been defeated somehow. For they easily forget that Christ within them stands much taller, than the devil, who has already been long ago defeated at the cross. But it doesn't need to be said that even though those confused true followers might walk daily in defeat, they're still pretty big winners in our Lord God's sight due to their faith even though it might be the size of a mustard seed.

The Triumph of the Cross

Cruel Crown Pdf [Pdf/ePub] eBook

The Triumph of the Cross by Richard Viladesau Book Summary:

This is a sequel to Richard Viladesau's well-received study, The Beauty of the Cross: The Passion of Christ in Theology and the Arts from the Catacombs to the Eve of the Renaissance. It continues his project of presenting theological history by using art as both an independent religious or theological "text" and as a means of understanding the cultural context for academic theology. Viladesau argues that art and symbolism function as alternative strands of theological expression sometimes parallel to, sometimes interwoven with, and sometimes in tension with formal theological reflection on the meaning of crucifixion and its role in salvation history. This book examines the two great revolutionary movements that gave birth to the modern West: the Renaissance and the Protestant Reformation. This period was eventful for both theology and art, and thus particularly fruitful for Viladesau's project. Using individual works of art, over sixty of which are reproduced in this book, to epitomize particular artistic and theological models, he explores the contours of each paradigm through the works of representative theologians as well as liturgical, poetic, artistic, and musical sources. To name a few examples, the theologies of Savonarola, Luther, Calvin, and the Council of Trent, are examined in correlation to the new situation of art in the era of Fra Angelico, Leonardo, Michelangelo, D?rer, Cranach, and the Mannerists. In this book, Viladesau continues to deepen our understanding of the foremost symbol of Christianity.

We Were There

Cruel Crown Pdf [Pdf/ePub] eBook

We Were There by Sarah A. O'Malley,Robert D. Eimer,Mary Charles McGough Book Summary:

We Were There is a dramatic Way of the Cross, based on John Paul II's Scriptural Way of the Cross, first prayed by the Pope on March 29, 1991. Beginning in the Garden of Gethsemane and concluding at the tomb, this new work offers a powerful, yet personal rendition of the Passion of Jesus. The purpose of this work is to renew a time honored devotion?which for some has become too intellectual and mechanical. We Were There makes the journey come alive through its personal and dramatic style. Its easy-to-follow format leads the individual through each station: the traditional refrain of "We Adore You, O Christ" announces the station; a Scripture passage is read; a character from the Scripture passage is named and then a monologue is rendered; a short prayer is recited by the congregation that responds to what was revealed in the monologue, and applies the character's meditation to modern everyday life. A verse of "Were You There?" concludes each station. Intended for both individual or group use, the spirit of We Were There is one of participation and emotional involvement. Suitable as a passion play, it also provides a new way of engaging youth in religious rituals and devotions. Although it differs from the traditional stations, this versatile new Way of the Cross provides an exciting alternative to the traditional Way of the Cross in church that can easily be imagined by the assembly, or created in tableau form for parish Lenten devotions. It is the perfect way youth can contribute to parish life. Whether it is done simply by presider/lectors or more elaborately by acting out the roles, We Were There revives interest in this very ancient devotion of the Church.

Walking the Way of Sorrows

Cruel Crown Pdf [Pdf/ePub] eBook

Walking the Way of Sorrows by Katerina Katsarka Whitley Book Summary:

Each year on Good Friday and throughout Lent, Christian congregations all over the world walk the Stations of the Cross, a commemoration of Jesus' walk to Calvary. In Walking the Way of Sorrows, artist Noyes Capehart and writer/journalist Katerina Whitley provide a fresh resource for congregations and individuals who want to explore the meaning of these Stations more deeply. Capehart's stark and powerful blockcuts of the fourteen Stations are accompanied by monologues from the point of view of someone at each station. These monologues, along with biblical references and a brief liturgy, are excellent for individual devotion, but can also be used by groups who walk the Stations together. Katerina Whitley has worked as a church journalist for the past two decades and also is the author of two other books of monologues: Speaking for Ourselves: Voices of Biblical Women and Seeing for Ourselves: Biblical Women Who Met Jesus, both available from Morehouse Publishing. Noyes Capehart is a professional artist whose works have been shown at the Whitney Museum of American Art, The Smithsonian Museum, and elsewhere. His art has been featured in American Artist magazine as well as in private collections in the United States, Europe, and Mexico.
