Cabin Fever by , Book Summary:

Cabin Fever might be described as a modern Walden, if you can imagine Thoreau married, with a job, three kids, and a minivan. A seasonal memoir written alternately from a little cabin in the Michigan woods and a house in suburban Chicago, the book engages readers in a serious yet irreverent conversation about Thoreau's relevance in the modern age. The author turns Thoreau's immortal statement "I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately" on its head with the phrase "I got married and had children because I wished to live deliberately." Though Fate spends half his time at the cabin, this is no world-renouncing, back-to-nature paean. Unlike Thoreau during his Walden years, he balances his solitude with full engagement in family and civic life. Fate's writing reflects this balancing of nature and family in stories such as "The Confused Cardinal," in which a male cardinal feeds chicks of another species and leads to a reflection on parenting; "In the Time of Cicadas," which juxtaposes his wife's hysterectomy with the burgeoning fecundity of the seventeen-year cicadas coming out to mate; and in a beautiful essay reminiscent of E. B. White's "Once More to the Lake," in which Fate takes his son to the same cabin his father took him as a child. In his exploration of how we are to live "a more deliberate life" amid a high-tech, materialist culture, Fate invites readers into an interrogation of their own lives, and into a new kind of vision: the possibility of enough in a culture of more.

Music in the Horror Film by Neil Lerner Book Summary:

Music in Horror Film is a collection of essays that examine the effects of music and its ability to provoke or intensify fear in this particular genre of film. Frightening images and ideas can be made even more intense when accompanied with frightening musical sounds, and music in horror film frequently makes its audience feel threatened and uncomfortable through its sudden stinger chords and other shock effects. The essays in this collection address the presence of music in horror films and their potency within them. With contributions from scholars across the disciplines of music and film studies, these essays delve into blockbusters like The Exorcist, The Shining, and The Sixth Sense together with lesser known but still important films like Carnival of Souls and The Last House on the Left. By leading us with the ear to hear these films in new ways, these essays allow us to see horror films with fresh eyes.

Consuming Gothic by Lorna Piatti-Farnell Book Summary:

This book offers a critical analysis of the relationship between food and horror in post-1980 cinema. Evaluating the place of consumption within cinematic structures, Piatti-Farnell analyses how seemingly ordinary foods are re-evaluated in the Gothic framework of irrationality and desire. The complicated and often ambiguous relationship between food and horror draws important and inescapable connections to matters of disgust, hunger, abjection, violence, as well as the sensationalisation of transgressive corporeality and monstrous pleasures. By looking at food consumption within Gothic cinema, the book uncovers eating as a metaphorical activity of the self, where the haunting psychology of the everyday, the porous boundaries of the body, and the uncanny limits of consumer identity collide. Aimed at scholars, researchers, and students of the field, Consuming Gothic charts different manifestations of food and horror in film while identifying specific socio-political and cultural anxieties of contemporary life.

Coping with the Seasons by Kelly J Rohan Book Summary:

Seasonal affective disorder (SAD) affects a significant number of individuals, with an even greater percentage of population suffering from a milder version of the "winter blues." Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) has long been recognized as an effective treatment for depression and now there is evidence that CBT can also benefit those with SAD. The group program outlined in this therapist guide tailors CBT for depression to the special needs of the SAD population. It can be easily adapted for use in individual therapy, as well as be combined with light therapy. This therapist guide details twelve sessions to be completed over a six-week period. It gives step-by-step instruction for session activities and discussion. SAD-specific examples, sample dialogues, and diagrams help illustrate the points to be covered. Participants are provided with psychoeducation to further their understanding and awareness of SAD. They learn techniques to reduce symptoms, such as pleasant activity scheduling and cognitive restructuring. By increasing the amount of pleasant activities and changing thoughts and beliefs to be more adaptive, participants reverse the downward spiral of inactivity, negative thoughts and beliefs, and depressed mood. Relapse prevention helps participants maintain their gains and prepare for future winter seasons. With proven CBT techniques and a strong focus on SAD, this guide is a valuable addition to the clinician's toolbox. A chapter on group logistics and an appendix with fidelity checklists will assist clinicians in successfully implementing the program. Home practice is an important part of the program and the corresponding workbook includes forms for each session. TreatmentsThatWorkTM represents the gold standard of behavioral healthcare interventions! · All programs have been rigorously tested in clinical trials and are backed by years of research · A prestigious scientific advisory board, led by series Editor-In-Chief David H. Barlow, reviews and evaluates each intervention to ensure that it meets the highest standard of evidence so you can be confident that you are using the most effective treatment available to date · Our books are reliable and effective and make it easy for you to provide your clients with the best care available · Our corresponding workbooks contain psychoeducational information, forms and worksheets, and homework assignments to keep clients engaged and motivated · A companion website (www.oup.com/us/ttw) offers downloadable clinical tools and helpful resources · Continuing Education (CE) Credits are now available on select titles in collaboration with PsychoEducational Resources, Inc. Cabin Fever by Marilyn Pappano Book Summary:

Take one gorgeous, down-on-his-luck man, add an irresistible, up-for-anything woman. Put them together in a smoldering little town--and watch the temperature rise. Nolie Harper is starting over. And the bustling burg of Bethlehem is as far as the single mother can get from the gossipy one-horse town of Whiskey Creek, Arkansas. All set to claim the twin cabins she just inherited, Nolie discovers she already has a tenant: a scruffy, powerfully built stranger who makes it clear he wants to be left alone. Chase Wilson may be living like a recluse, but he’s making her yearn for togetherness--and stirring up the kind of desires that can change a woman’s whole outlook on life. Newly sprung from prison for a crime he didn’t commit, Chase is liking life alone in his rented cabin just fine. Until the redhead with the lush curves and her young daughter arrive and throw what’s left of his life into maddening chaos. With her tantalizing neighborly ways, Nolie is slowly scorching her way into his guarded heart. And her passionate kind of healing is rapidly transforming his private hideaway into a lovers’ retreat hot enough to ignite an entire town.

It is 1792 and unbeknownst to a group of voyageurs traveling from Montreal to Grand Portage, an intrepid squirrel, Jean Pierre Petit Le Rouge, sneaks onto their canoe. Le Rouge is soon discovered because he can't contain his excitement--mon dieu he is so enthusiastic. The smells! The vistas! The comradery! The voyageurs are not particularly happy to have him, especially because Le Rouge rides, but he does not paddle. He eats, but he does not cook. He doesn't even carry anything on portages--sometimes it is he who has to be carried. He also has a terrible singing voice. What kind of voyageur is that? When they finally arrive at the trading post Le Rouge is in for a terrible shock--the voyageurs have traveled all those miles to collect beaver pelts. With the help of Monique, a smart and sweet flying squirrel, Le Rouge organizes his fur-bearing friends of the forest to ambush the men and try and convince them to quit being voyageurs. Written by a Newbery honor author, the book has over 20 black-and-white illustrations. A Junior Library Guild Selection

After Daniel by Moira Farr Book Summary:

Moira Farr discovered Daniel Jones’ body on Valentine’s Day, 1994. Struggling with deep depression, he had killed himself using a method clearly outlined in the bestselling book, Final Exit. Six years later, in an account both deeply personal and thoughtfully political, Farr reflects on Daniel’s suicide and its consequences. After Daniel is not a sensational tell-all, a self-help book on grieving, or an academic review of suicide theories. It is one woman’s story—beautifully, lyrically told—of her own experiences and her realization that answers come both from within and from looking at suicide in a wider social context. After Daniel reaches beyond suicide survivors to all those who embrace the sacredness of life and love.

I can honestly say this was one of my favorite books! I couldn't put it down. It was one of those stay up WAY PAST your bedtime to keep reading to find out what happens next! I am tired but I am very satisfied with how this book progressed and ended.. I just wish it could have kept going on and on and on.... Elle Casey sure didn't disappoint as I knew she wouldn't!!!” ~ Amazon Reviewer “Another book that will keep you up all night, because you won't be able to put it down. I am totally loving this series from my favourite author. It's great to read books that aren't predictable. This is another great read, I highly recommend.” ~ Lisa Berardi, Amazon Reviewer “Awesome continuation of the series. I laughed, cried, and laughed some more. Can't wait to read the last installment in the series.” ~ Amazon Reviewer About this series: I’d never been to New York City before, but I knew I would love it and wanted to write a story that was set in the most exciting city in the world. So I hopped on a plane with my friend Susan and spent 5 whirlwind days there, soaking up the culture, seeing the sights and nailing down the scenes that would eventually end up in this series. Those of you familiar with New York City know what I’m talking about when I say you just can’t beat Russ and Daughters’ bagels, Central Park, Times Square, Brooklyn, and Yonnah Schimmels’ knishes.

Cabin Fever 3: A Change of Heart by Ane-Marie Kjeldberg Book Summary:

Christmas time is usually a happy time for Frederick. But this year is different. His boyfriend has left him, and he is determined to ignore the holiday alone in his cabin by the North Sea. At least, that is what he tells himself. But then, his cousin, Ingrid, shows up. She forces him to enjoy the holiday and even invites Tina Black, the ex-wife of Doctor Black. As the days progress, Frederick is forced to take stock of his life, his family and above all, his sexuality. The summers of the late 1960s are bursting with a thunderous humidity. The beautiful cabins of the Gray Dunes are filled to the brim with people ready to experience everything the warm summer has in store for them. But some get more than they bargained for, as the sensuality and tension of the scantily clad summer bodies permeates the air by the North Sea. Dive into a world of romance and lust, and experience the cabin fever for yourself! Ane-Marie Kjeldberg is a Danish writer, editor and writing coach
