Lady Aurelia's Bequest by Sheila Walsh Book Summary:

In Cordelia Darcy, Shelia Walsh has created one of her most delightful heroines ever. From a modest colonial background in America, she arrives in Regency London during the autumn of 1811 and makes it her stage. Before ever she steps foot in London though, Cordelia has already become part of a dangerous diplomatic intrigue as the result of her shipboard encounter with a fellow American: Drew Harvey. Working to secure peace between England and America, Mr Harvey enlists Cordelia's help as a courier - thereby drawing her into the sights of his own very determined enemies. Despite these shadows playing around her, Cordelia Darcy's first London Season is a resounding success - as if in tribute to the godmother whose bequest made it possible. And for all that she stands at the heart of a conspiracy that gathers force daily, Cordelia's story is also one of a beautiful young girl entering Society, falling in love for the first time and learning to identify her own feelings. With her use of period detail providing a sumptuous Regency backcloth throughout, Shelia Walsh combines each separate thread of Lady Aurelia's Bequest into a first class romantic thriller.

Dating Is Murder by Harley Jane Kozak Book Summary:

Wollie Shelley, the plucky amateur sleuth Kirkus Reviews called “funny, brave, smart, and altogether the fetchingest crime heroine since the early Stephanie Plum,” returns to face suspect lovers and unlovable suspects in this hilarious sequel to Dating Dead Men. Wollie Shelley is a greeting card artist struggling to keep afloat financially and to pursue—despite a series of recent disasters—the search for the love of her life. She reluctantly agrees to be a contestant on the reality television show Biological Clock. The show’s premise: Six eligible singles date each other, and the audience votes on which couple would make the best parents. Alas, Wollie isn’t having much luck finding a man she’d like to date “off the air,” much less father her child. As her own biological clock ticks away, Wollie gets caught up in a much more pressing demand on her time. Her friend Annika has vanished into thin air, and Wollie is convinced that she’s in grave danger. When Wollie reports the disappearance to the Los Angeles Police Department, however, the detective assigned to the case seems more interested in dating Wollie than in finding her friend. So Wollie springs into action—and lands right in the middle of an FBI investigation into an international drug cartel. She soon finds herself being stalked by an assortment of threatening characters, including her fellow television contestants, who will stop at nothing to beat the clock. With Dating Is Murder, Kozak delivers another sparkling treasure, a laugh-out-loud-funny, literate mystery for readers of Janet Evanovich and Sue Grafton and for Kozak’s own growing legion of fans.

Are Cops Racist? by Heather MacDonald Book Summary:

False charges of racial profiling threaten to obliterate the crime-fighting gains of the last decade, especially in America's inner cities. This is the message of Heather Mac Donald's new book, in which she brings her special brand of tough and honest journalism to the current war against the police. The anti-profiling crusade, she charges, thrives on an ignorance of policing and a willful blindness to the demographics of crime. In careful reports from New York and other major cities across the country, Ms. Mac Donald investigates the workings of the police, the controversy over racial profiling, and the anti-profiling lobby's harmful effects on black Americans. The reduction in urban crime, one of the nation's signal policy successes of the 1990s, has benefited black communities even more dramatically than white neighborhoods, she shows. By policing inner cities actively after long neglect, cops have allowed business and civil society to flourish there once more. But attacks on police, centering on false charges of police racism and racial profiling, and spearheaded by activists, the press, and even the Justice Department, have slowed the success and threaten to reverse it. Ms. Mac Donald looks at the reality behind the allegations and writes about the black cops you never heard about, the press coverage of policing, and policing strategies across the country. Her iconoclastic findings demolish the prevailing anti-cop orthodoxy.

Fundamental Otology: Pediatric and Adult Practice by Quinton Gopen Book Summary:

The goal of this textbook is to provide a substantive coverage of the fundamental aspects of otology. Although it is always difficult to determine the most appropriate scope of any textbook, a concerted effort to include pediatric otology in this textbook was considered a priority. The first 9 chapters include both pediatric and adult otology and are organized based on anatomic sub-sites. Each chapter includes a brief embryologic review, a more comprehensive anatomic review, and a discussion of pathologic disease processes. Although skull base surgery is certainly a complicated and expansive field, some of the basic principles and fundamental surgical techniques regarding skull base surgery are an important part of otology and are consequently included here in Chapter 9. Chapter 10 is a thorough review of common and uncommon systemic diseases focusing on their otologic manifestations. The subsequent chapter on radiology focuses on normal anatomy as seen on CT scans and MR images. Finally, Chapter 12, Surgical Procedures, is an overview of the common surgical procedures performed in the practice of otology as well as some of the essential skull base procedures. More than 550 coloured images and illustration describing step-by-step presentations of the principal of otological operations.
